Few days in the club’s history will match Sunday, April 27. After the heroics of our U14 boys the day before, winning the South Munster League final v Dolphin, the U16 boys kicked off a Sunday finals double header in dramatic fashion with a last gasp try winner v Old Christians. Surely our U18 boys couldn’t complete the South Munster Hat-trick?? Few believed it possible, especially considering our history of finals defeats at the Farm. Well, this was the day history would be written.

Now it was the U18 boys turn, facing Clonakilty in the Final of the South Munster League.

Kinsale started well with the breeze. Two early Cooper Farrell tries with one amazing back door pass assist from Rory Forde. Rory then converted BOTH as a nasty breeze blew across him. This set the boys on their way.

Clon fought back into the breeze and scored a try, but our boys rallied with a Josh Lehane try. Another Clon try, followed by a Rory Forde pen meant it was 22-10 going into half time. Not a bad return with the breeze, but little room for error.

The Clon fightback came quickly and in no time it was 22-22. Kinsale needed to score again as they would lose on the most tries scored rule. They went up the pitch and got a great Brion Mullen try.

Again Clon rallied and got in the corner. 27-27 with no time left. Kinsale had to score. It seemed impossible as they were stuck deep in their half but they worked their way up the park and went through the phases. Probing and testing, showing great handling skills and never panicking even as the clock went into the red. Their patience paid off and a Clon infringement at the breakdown was penalised.

Up stepped Rory Forde with ice in his veins, slotting the last kick of the game to win it. Unbelievable drama and excitement as KRFC people could scarcely believe their eyes.

Credit to Clon and their captain who warmly congratulated Kinsale, despite their disappointment.

The 30-27 win was too close for comfort but this talented side have endured a lot of heartache over the years. A well deserved win for a great group of players 👏👏👏👏

This capped a HUGE weekend for the club. Three major South Munster trophies for our U14 boys, U16 boys and U18 boys. While our U12 boys and girls played tournament rugby in Seapoint in Dublin, and our U14 and U16 girls won a plate in an end of season Sevens in Fethard. What a weekend!!
