Youths U16 South Munster League ...  Round 1 @ Snugmore on Saturday 14 September 2019

Under 16s South Munster League Phase 1, 14th Sept.

Kinsale U16s got off to good start in their league with a 27-7 home win over Charleville.
The visitors effectively owned the ball for the first 10 minutes, using their big pack to great effect, and eventually picked and scored from close range off the back of a ruck.
Kinsale soon got their running game going, and after a sweeping
movement half the length of the pitch, Ben O’Reilly ran a lovely support line and went over for Kinsale.
Some more fine from the home team, combining forwards and backs, saw right winger David Kelly crash over in the corner.
HT score: Kinsale 10 – 7 Charleville

Kinsale kept up the tempo in the 2nd half and the much bigger Charleville pack started to tire. Kinsale continued to fell the visitors’ big runners, with openside Fionn O’Connell putting in an eye-catching series of ankle tackles, ably assisted by 2nd row Cian Looney.
Fly-half Cathal O’Leary varied his game well, between putting his centres into space, and kicking some lovely diagonals that caused problems for the visitors’ back three.
The third try came from a break from outside centre Paul Graham, who left a couple of would-be tacklers in his wake to score under the sticks.
More good inter-linking play put winger Conor O’Callaghan over, this time in the left corner.
From near the Charleville line, No. 8 Dylan Mullen had the awareness to tap a quick penalty and swing it wide through the hands, putting the elusive Graham over again in the right corner.

In spite of their 5 tries, if truth be known, Kinsale’s passing and offloading let them down way too often, and will have to improve significantly over the next fortnight, with the next 2 Saturdays being crucial in determining qualification for the Munster Cup competition.
