Turkey season at Snugmore for the 1st Team. KinsaleRFC 54pts Kanturk RFC 27pts. Kinsale hosted what had been a somewhat bogie team for them in previous meetings Kanturk RFC, Kinsale having lost to the same side in a hugely contested Junior Cup outing at Snugmore did not wish to repeat that performance again. Kinsale within four minutes of the game kicking off had an opportunity to kick a penalty on the oppositions twenty two but No.10 Peter Murphy’s effort fell wide and short. Within 15mins Kinsale took the lead with Frazier Hodgson feeding flanker Barry Wright to coast through a very static defence and pass inside to the supporting runner in outside centre Edouard le Maire to touch down under the sticks, dually converted by No,10 Murphy. On 22mins No.9 Ben Alary broke off a maul feed his No.10 to race down the touch line to score kinsale’s second. Kanturk managed a score form a collapsed lineout with No.5 Barry McQuaid adjudged to have pulled on the jersey of opposition lineout jumper thus the award of a penalty which was taken. Another fine try came as a result of excellent approach work from Andy Lynch weaving his way through Kanturks back division laying it to supporting forward McQuaid before he was tackle short of the line and when the ref warned the defence to roll and this not been adhered to a penalty came, Shane O’Regan tapping and feeding Frazier Hodgson to score with Murphy converting 19pts to 3pts. The game ebbed and followed back and forth for some time with penalties happening and a messy affair began to develop unfortunately No.8 Tagh Wright been sin binned for going off his feet and subsequently killing Kanturk’s attacking advantage. Kinsale rallied once more and from a ruck ball No.9 Alary feed a flat pass onto the rushing Peter Murphy to race up the touchline and score in the corner also converting his own try leaving the game 26pts to 3pts in favour of the home side. The second period began as it ended with Kinsale applying huge pressure in the scrum through John O’Sullivan and co. Kinsale scored on the hour mark through a simple lineout, ten hitting 12 and looping racing away untouched to score his second of the game converting also. Another try came when a training ground move came off perfectly with Frazier Hodgson going in off a scrum attack inside Kanturk’s twenty two metre line converted by Murphy. Now with score standing at 40pts to 8pts with Kanturk scoring a try off Kinsale throwing ball around where they shouldn’t and dropping it for the opposition to touch down. Minutes later a cross field kick from Murphy aimed at wing Shane O’Halloran resulted in the winger feeding centre Hodgson who in turn returned to Shane to speed away leaving the score 47pts to 8pts. To their credit Kanturk rallied to scored tries to earn a losing bonus point scoring three late tries, Kinsale replied near the end when Murphy got his hat trick of tries and converting leaving it 54pts to 27pts......
