Munster Junior League 2 @ Snugmore on 24 January 2010
Munster junior league division two, Sunday 24th Jan 2010. Kinsale RFC hosted the visit of Ennis in the Munster league division two at Snugmore, Kinsale not having played many games since the adverse weather conditions struck sporting events throughout England and Ireland over the Christmas period and beyond, Kinsale wanted to rekindle their promotion ambitions. Having lost the previous season in Ennis, the home side knew only a strong and positive approach would see them win through. Both teams entered the arena with a sizeable crowd there to shout on their respected sides. Ennis won the toss and chose to kick towards the sheltered end of the pitch allowing the ball not to be held up and subsequently Kinsale fielded and set up an attack straight off. Within the first five minutes the home side had gathered mauled the ball up to the opposition ten and moved it wide allowing speed man Andrew Lynch to weave his way through a couple of defenders and with a 20 metre sprint crossed the line giving Kinsale the early advantage, the subsequent kick was missed. After the opening volleys from the forwards a kicking game was introduced which showed the lack of game time both teams have had in previous weeks as no one trusted their backline attack, conditions worsening also lead to balls being dropped when going into contact. With thirty minutes of a kick and chase game Ennis finally got on the score sheet, a drop goal attempt from No.10 Brian Murphy positioned in front of the post from a ruck which was defended manfully from Kinsale when it seemed the home side might have leak a try. Within minutes Ennis were awarded a penalty from Kinsale player adjudged not to be rolling away after the tackle and B.Murphy dually kicked leaving Kinsale trailing 6-5 at half time. The second half Kinsale came out with the same vigour that the possessed in the opening quarter of the match, forcing Ennis to kick to our full back and dangerous wingers who return the ball with some degree of interested either from running it or with well positioned punt returns. One such occasion kinsale were inside Ennis twenty two using quick ball Peter Murphy miss pass to Eduoard Lemaire looped and scored under the posts, kicking the conversation himself. 18-6 the score remained for several minutes, the home side now trying to press Ennis into making more mistakes either poor kicks or trying to run out of defence. One suck occasion resulted in a tackle by Billy Kiely and a penalty coming for not releasing, again dually kicked by No.10 Peter Murphy leaving us with a victory score line of 21-6. The key thing was to most spectators the ability of Kinsale to absorb huge amounts of pressure and create turnovers in the key areas of the pitch.
