Posted by Kinsale RFC on Thursday 24 April 2008
It was to a biting cold and strong wind that in Kinsale stepped out in Ballincollig tonight for the semi final of the Mc Carthy Cup. Kinsale worked hard against the wind but after 1 missed and 1 kicked penalty Ballincollig scored a try in the corner bringing the score to 8-0. Another penalty in favour of the home team widened the gap which was quickly brought back down to earth with a try under the posts by David O Mahoney. James Lynch stepped forward and converted closing the gap to 11-7 down. Kinsale started the second half missing both Outhalf and Second Centre to injury. In the early minutes newly appointed Outhalf Lynch kicked a penalty leaving Kinsale breathing down Ballincolligs neck. Not to be out done Ballincollig kept Kinsale under pressure throughout but a brave decision from the away team saw Lynch bringing the side ahead with a penalty kick from 41 meters out sealing his man of the match performance. Strong work from centre Fintan Lawton and Back Rows Gordon Sullivan and Robbie Darmody helped bring Kinsale to a 13-10 victory over the home side and a place in the cup final.
