Kinsale U18 Cup Champions!

Kinsale played Fermoy tonight in the Final of the U-18 South Munster Development Cup at Ballincollig. The match started strong with powerful defence from both sides. In the early minutes a drop goal from First Centre Lloyd Darmody put the Kinsale side 3-0 up. Soon after, the same Darmody was Red Carded and so Kinsale were faced with the challenge of playing the remainder of the game 1 man down. Taking advantage of Kinsale’s vulnerability Fermoy scored their own drop goal evening the score to 3-3 heading into half time. The second half saw a number of scoring opportunities for both sides but neither was able to break through the oppositions defence. After a yellow card to Fermoy and a number of substitutions, they were under pressure with Kinsale’s strength and fitness and showing through. Great performances from Captain William Crowley, Aiden Mc Claverty and crunching tackles from Robin O’Flynn kept Fermoy from breaking the defence line. Kinsale attacked with great heart which paid off with the referee awarding them the win as a result of having the first score under Munster Branch rules which does not allow the play of extra time in U18’s.
