Kinsale U18 Cup Champions!

Kinsale played Fermoy tonight in the Final of the U-18 South Munster Development Cup at Ballincollig. The match started strong with powerful defence from both sides. In the early minutes a drop goal from First Centre Lloyd Darmody put the Kinsale side 3-0 up. Soon after, the same Darmody was Red Carded and so Kinsale were faced with the challenge of playing the remainder of the game 1 man down. Taking advantage of Kinsaleâ€™s vulnerability Fermoy scored their own drop goal evening the score to 3-3 heading into half time. The second half saw a number of scoring opportunities for both sides but neither was able to break through the oppositions defence. After a yellow card to Fermoy and a number of substitutions, they were under pressure with Kinsaleâ€™s strength and fitness and showing through. Great performances from Captain William Crowley, Aiden Mc Claverty and crunching tackles from Robin Oâ€™Flynn kept Fermoy from breaking the defence line. Kinsale attacked with great heart which paid off with the referee awarding them the win as a result of having the first score under Munster Branch rules which does not allow the play of extra time in U18â€™s.
