Kinsale faced Cork Constitution at Ballyanly, Muskerry last Sunday 16th November. The day was perfect though the pitch was heavy .. Kinsale started nervously but settled down well, particularly in the set pieces and clearing the lines to gain territory. Kinsale had most of the possession going the 2nd quarter and their pressure was rewarded with penalty well taken by Lloyd Carmody. 3-0 to Kinsale at half-time. The start of the second half saw Cork Constitution looking livlier - the game developed into close battle of attrition with Cork Con scoring an unconverted try after 30 mins. Shortly after, Kinsale were down to 14 men after an obstruction offence inside Kinsale's 22 metre zone. Cork Cons' tails were up, but instead the men in green, white and blue answered the call. They raised the tempo of the game with inciisive kicking and mauling strongly up the middle of the park. Then running the ball wide and Ian Coughlan scoring a deserving try. Kinsale kept up the pressure and scored a 2nd try resulting from quick passing and finishing with Dave O'Connell crossing the line. 13-5 for Kinsale with about 8 minutes regulation time to go. Cork Con did not fold and responded with a converted try but even the then, Kinsale seemed the fitter side at the end and played with more purpose. 13-12 was the final score. An exciting game with both sides giving their best. As Conor Cullen, Kinsale Captain said when accepting the O'Sullivan Cup Trophy '' Thanks to Cork Con, you didn't make it easy for us, but Kinsale really wanted to win this one! ''. Next week( Sunday 23rd Nov ) it's back to basics ... Kinsale 1st XV will host Muskerry in the J1 league and the 2nd XV will host Listowel also at home; both games start at 2.30 pm at Snugmore .. Good rugby in prospect and an oppotunity to build on league wins to date for both teams.
